A RENOVATION FOR AN AMBASSADOR’S RESIDENCE
We carried out a conservation-led refurbishment of the external areas of an ambassador’s private residence: a government-owned villa on Via Leonida Rech in Rome, in the Ponte Mammolo district. The intervention was designed to preserve the villa’s external character while addressing routine maintenance needs. Works were limited to the exterior.
The works included a complete upgrade of the external areas: restoration of façades with widespread plaster cracking; replacement of the entrance driveway paving, which had lifted in several areas due to surface tree roots; and replacement of entrance gates and railings above boundary walls, which were corroded and deteriorated.
Façades were treated with localised plaster repairs, skim coating and full repainting in a very pale tone, preserving the original white character and increasing brightness. Existing surface pipework was rationalised and concealed.
We designed and supplied vehicle and pedestrian gates, together with boundary railings, in a style that is simple yet elegant.
Elements were fabricated in galvanised steel and finished in a micaceous blue enamel; the spear tips were finished in a silver-grey tone. The entrance canopy was clad with perimeter sheet metal in the same blue finish. The star cut-out in the gate panels references the embassy’s emblem.
Driveway paving had lifted in multiple areas due to the surface roots of surrounding pine trees, so it was fully removed along with the sub-base. A shallow excavation was carried out mechanically, and a reinforced concrete slab was cast over welded mesh to reduce the risk of future heave. The driveway perimeter was finished with stone kerbs, and the selected paving is irregular porphyry.
We carried out the works with our technical studio ING. GABRIELE D’AMORE for design, and our company AGL D’AMORE S.R.L. for delivery. The project took a total of 4 months.
